It was known to them only after Christopher Columbus sailed into the Caribbean Sea while trying to find a route to Asia. It is a home to twenty nine percent of the world’s coral reefs.

This area today comprises of twenty two island territories and borders twelve continental borders. The Caribbean Sea is the most popular destination for tourists. The main reasons responsible for this are scenic destinations, abundant sunshine, trade winds and tropical temperatures. All these factors have also resulted in the expansion of the cruise industry in the sea.

Earthquakes and volcanic activity are very common in this sea. Tropical storms and hurricanes are also formed in this region. The weather of this sea is largely influenced by the gulf Stream and Humboldt Current ocean currents.
