Novel with scuba diving in, I can’t figure out which book it was?


I remember a scene from a book, and so can my mum, and in it was a girl and her husband/boyfriend who went scuba diving. The man couldn’t go for some reason, and was her buddy through training, so this creepy guy who usually buddied with the instructor went with her. Then at the bottom of the sea, her oxygen tank stopped working, and she had to share her buddy’s oxygen, but he swam away from her, and wouldn’t give it to her, then she almost died, but made it up to the surface in time.

What book is it from? It’s REALLY bugging me!

It could be “The Deep” by Peter Benchley.
