Old Australian Children’s Novel? Scuba diving boy finds japanese submarine…….?

I am looking for an old Australian book published in the 1960′s or 1970′s. It was a children’s story about a Australian boy who, when scuba diving, finds a Japaneses submarine sunk in WW2 . At the same time a wicked Japanese man also finds the submarine. The Japanese man takes the boy’s air tank and leaves him inside the submarine to die. A huge octopus kills the Japanese man and the boy is saved. I read it when i was a child and now would like my son to read it. If anyone knows the title or author of this book, it would be much appreciated.
Thank you.

I haven’t been able to come up with much.

It may be one of the Percy Westerman books, very prolific adventure writer, with some of his later works falling around the right publishing date; or perhaps one of Willard Price’s gripping books in his ‘Adventure’ series, featuring Hal and Roger Hunt, I recall there were two or three that dealt with various diving/underwater exploits, and definitely one with a giant squid/octopus putting in a thrilling experience.
