Oceanic Scuba Diving Equipment

Should I buy my own scuba gear?
I am looking into buying an Oceanic scuba gear package for $1750. I have been a certified diver for two years now but haven’t done as many dives as I would have liked to. This is mainly because of the extra expense of hiring scuba gear, it can change a $50 dive into a $100 dive! I am not sure whether to buy my own Equipment, or save my money (as i am still in school and have uni/car to pay for soon). I would really want my own gear and i have the money, but it is a lot of money. Should I get the gear? Or is there a cheaper quality package i can get locally in australia? Thanks.
I suggest you at least get your own regulator if you can afford it. The regulator and console is probably your most important piece of gear. You can set it up for the equipment you need to connect it to and you can have a buddy regulator as back up.
A BCD would also be a good buy. Both regulator and BCD can be a small package for traveling with limited weight requirements.
Your own gear will probably be better maintained better than any rental you can get.
Just work on getting one piece at a time. You have to figure out what the most important piece to get first. When the finances get better, then get the next important piece of equipment that you need.
