Diving Cozumel Mexico

Me and my mom are going to cozumel mexico…and we need help finding something else to do besides diving?

any advice on safety? dives? restaurants? tours? anything? were going on some dives but want to see the ruins… is the horse back rides fun?

You’re in luck! Cozumel is an extremely popular international tourist site, so there are plenty of activities for everyone. Although Cozumel is known for its diving, there are some very nice beaches on the island and any watersports that you’d enjoy at other Caribbean island destinations could be done at Cozumel. Sunbathing, swimming, parasailing, waterskiing — it’s all good. You can also take the high-speed ferries over to Playa del Carmen, explore that beach resort, or rent a car and head inland to Mayan archeaolgical sites like Coba, Chichen-Itza (a long drive) or Tulum.

One fun thing to do on Cozumel is to just rent a motorbike and cruise around the island, stopping at the uncrowded beaches along the north side, maybe stopping off for some activities at some of the reef day-resorts. A lot of people enjoy visiting Chankanaab too — there’s various activities there, you can swim with the dolphins or snorkel on the reef. There are also two small Mayan sites on Cozumel (the more popular one is probably San Gervais). One tip on the Mayan sites — absolutely bring plenty of mosquito repellant — San Gervais is inland a couple miles, surrounded by jungle, and you WILL be eaten alive if you don’t liberally apply repellant. (There’s also guys there who will spray you for about a buck or two).

As for safety, no real worries. Cozumel is safer than any place in the U.S. that I can think of.
